From December 2006 to June 2008 (1 year 7 months) PhD Research Student @ PhD in the Computational Modelling of Child Language Acquisition. Despite the fact that we have all done it, none of us know how we learned our first language. Modern linguists, psychologists and cognitive scientists also disagree about how children learn language. The research conducted here took multi-disciplinary research and used computer modelling to investigate this mystery. The results suggested that the stages in child language acquisition point towards a learning mechanism that is emergent and statistical in nature and not a traditional parametrised learning model.
