Kiriakos Dourekas has a degree in law from McGill University. In 1980, Dourekas completed his degree in law and was ordained a priest. Dourekas has been married to his wife since 1978 and they have two children. Dourekas is currently an ordained priest in the Greek Orthodox Church. Dourekas has worked as a lawyer and since 1988, he has been an executive Secretary with the Canadian Embassy in Athens. From 1987 to 1995, he was the Coordinator of Greek Studies at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. From 1996 to 1999, Dourekas was the Regional Coordinator of Greek Studies at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. As an executive secretary, Dourekas was responsible for a variety of duties, such as providing advice to the President of the University and other officials onGreek studies initiatives, manage and monitor universityGreek studies initiatives, and oversee university financial resources. Dourekas is currently a research associate at the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ottawa. Dourekas is currently available for research projects in a variety of areas, including criminal justice, political economy, and religious studies. Dourekas is working on a project titled: "The Rebirth of Orthodox Christianity in Jamie Urophaeus's "Jewish Family in Greece"" which is being conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of English at the University of Ottawa. Dourekas has worked on research projects in a variety of fields, including criminal justice, political economy, and religious studies. His research projects have focused on issues surrounding the religious community in Greece and its impact on the criminal justice system, the political economy of Christianity in Greece, and the challenges

Kiriakos Dourekas began his professional career in the sports industry as a Trainer with Greek non-league team, Panathinaikos F.C. from 2001-2002. From 2003-2004 he worked as a Trainer with Bundesliga side Hannover 96 F.C. He moved up the leagues to become the Manager of Greek First Division side, FC AEK Athens from 2005-2007. In 2007, he started his managerial career with Championship side Nottingham Forest F.C. He spent two years with the club, before being appointed team Manager from January 2015. In Dourekas’s first season at the club, Forest were relegated to the Championship. However, they finished the season in second place, only two points behind Leicester City F.C. The following season, they achieved their second promotion to the Championship.
