About Kevin Hines
đź’Ľ Past Experience
In my experience as a mental health and suicide prevention advocate, storyteller and filmmaker, Kevin has shown an ability to connect with people and make a difference.Kevin is currently an Author: The 3rd Rail, In My Mania I Became at The3rdRailBook.com.When he was younger, Kevin struggled with some mental health issues. He struggled withucing weight, drugs and alcohol, and thinking about and harming himself. Ammunition Depot Incident:May of last year, Kevin was at the Ammunition Depot in Lexington, Kentucky, when he and three of his friends were robbed. The theft took place at gunpoint and Kevin was Taken into Custody. After the robbery, Kevin was hospitalized with mental health issues. While in the hospital, he met a woman named Melissa who helped him to get better.Speaking about the physical and emotional impact of the robbery, Melissa said, "Kevin had surgery on his jaw and due to the mistake made with the weapon, the flesh had to be cut off from his face. That was a very traumatic event for him and it was also the first time he had to deal with physical pain."After the robbery, Kevin was discharged from the hospital but still had mental health issues. He started to drink and use drugs again. The gunfire at the Ammunition Depot Incident made it harder for him to try to see the effects of his mental health issues in a positive light. Additionally, the Incident made him feel like he was a liar and a rat."After the shootout, during which three people were killed and four others were injured, I was carefree and happy. I was excited to get back into the world and start a new life," Kevin later said.Six months after the shootout, Kevin had another mental health incident. He overdosed on heroin and was admitted to the hospital."The hospital stint was very tough for me. I was uninsured and I was run low on money. I was so out of it that I couldn't even eat," Kevin said.Later that year, on January 5, Kevin accomplished something herefused to do for years: he completed a suicide attempt."It was an incredibly difficult experience. I went through a lot of changes during that time. I was coping with my addiction, my mental health and my loss. I was also recovering from the gunshot injury."After his attempt, Kevin started to therapy and started to work on his memoir, which is set to be published in 2019.Kevin has also been a Board Member at SAMHSA National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: Consumer Survivor Sub-Committee, Honorary Board Member at International Bipolar Foundation, and Global Speaker/Author/Advocate at 17th & Montgomery, LLC.Kevin has also been an Author: Cracked Not Broken, Surviving & Thriving After A Suicide Attempt.Kevin is also a Committee Member at National Suicde Prevention Lifeline. He is also a Speaker/Vollunteer at SAVE - Suicide Awareness Voices of Education from January 2005 to January 2017, and International Public Speaker/Author
