I am a United States Marine Corps veteran who served as an infantry team leader and squad leader at the rank of Corporal. As a 2015 graduate from Ohio State University, I plan to further develop my Somali language skills and to pursue personal research in my International Studies field of Security and Intelligence independently while I pursue various career opportunities that will build on my skills and experiences. My military career, though brief, provided me with a wide range of travels via a deployment to the Iraqi theatre of war as well as a number of other countries in support of the Global War on Terrorism and for humanitarian aide. In collaboration with my bachelor's degree, these experiences have allowed me to further develop a deep understanding of the complexities of international relations, leadership, strategy, and the profound importance of interpersonal skills.
Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician, Non-Certified @ In a Level II trauma hospital, I contribute to the decontamination and processing of medical devices and instrumentation in order to provide timely, quality products to 38 operating rooms, a busy labor and delivery department, emergency department, and same day surgery. Most recent reports show that we facilitated 12,148 inpatient surgeries and 9,163 outpatient surgeries in the latest reporting period by processing approximately 260,000 instrument sets annually. I frequently assist other associates via instruction on unique consigned instrumentation as well as collaborating with OR staff to provide the necessary equipment as situations develop and require immediate assistance from SPD during surgeries.
I specialize in orthopedic instrumentation, but am also familiar with neurological, general, cardiovascular, urological, craniomaxillofacial (CMF), and some Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) inventory. I frequently work with various product lines which are not limited to: Depuy-Synthes (Spine, Trauma, Orthopedic), Zimmer, Medtronic, Smith & Nephew, Aesculap, Stryker, Olympus, Nuvasive, and Karl Storz. From August 2012 to Present (3 years 3 months) Columbus, OhioLaborer/Foreman @ Responsibilities enveloped all labor aspects of commercial asphalt maintenance with the additional responsibilities of coordinating work at each site between company divisions, headquarters, and the customers while also utilizing a chauffeur’s license to drive 1,000 gallon tanker trucks to and from each worksite. Consulted with clients to guarantee proper customer service expectations were met. From 2011 to 2011 (less than a year) Sterling Heights, MichiganInfantry Team Leader @ Honorably discharged as a non-commissioned officer at the rank of Corporal; trained, evaluated, and counseled up to twelve subordinates; inspected (weapons, equipment, uniforms, etc.); advised and presented to upper management on morale, tactics, and squad competency; instilled standards in all of the above to junior Marines; trained/evaluated foreign military forces in excess of 50 troops; and travelled to nine countries to include a combat zone and disaster area. Additional experiences included leadership courses, medical training, occupational risk management, and other infantry related training.
