Unsurprisingly, having broken many things right before my parents were to return home impressed upon me a great appreciation for the art of creative problem solving under pressure.
While I already enjoyed creative problem solving, it was creating programs in DOS and later on a TI-83 graphing calculator that opened my eyes to the joys of programming and gave me a sense of what was possible with it. Programming evoked my passion for using technology to do to things more efficiently. To this day, I remain passionate about creative problem solving and constantly finding better ways to do things to save time, money and other resources.
I've been fortunate to be able to bring these passions into my workplaces to realize operational efficiency for employers. Highlights across various present and past roles include:
■ Creating a script to automate updating roughly 2000 projects. Adapting the script to an existing process yielded further savings of 1 hour weekly.
■ Creating Outlook macros to automate repetitive processes, saving up to 5 minutes per email team-wide.
■ Replicating Gmail's "send message without attachment" warning feature in Outlook (code linked in profile), reducing "oops" follow-up emails by 100%.
■ Creating multiple Excel macros which sped up recurring weekly processes by up to 95%.
■ Implementing an in-house system for producing ID cards, which saved $60,000 in outsourcing costs.
■ Creating batch scripts to automate repetitive tasks such as validating software installs on new machines – the validation script alone sped up the build & deploy process for thousands of machines by about 5%
