💼 Past Experience

Jörg Stypmann has worked in the field of Cardiology for over twenty years. He most recently worked as Head of the Cardiology Department at Industry of Medical Practice, where he was responsible for the management of the Cardiology Department and the development of new medical methods and treatments in the field. Additionally, he was also a Fliegerarzt at Jagdbombergeschwader 43 and a Chefarzt Kardiologie at Asklepios Südpfalzklinik. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenage sons.

🎓 Education

Jörg Stypmann's education has leaned heavily towards genetics and health-related sciences, with a focus on midlife issues and the elderly. He started off his academic career at the University of Kandel in Germany, where he received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry in 1993. After completing his undergraduate course, he moved on to the prestigious Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, where he received his doctorate degree in 1996.During his undergraduate studies, Jörg took on a research role at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. There, he researched the impact of environment and behaviour on the global AIDS epidemic. Following his doctorate degree, Jörg move to Münster, Germany, to take up aMoCA research fellowship at the University of Münster. This fellowship led to him conducting his first published research article in 2002. afterwards, Jörg started working as a research associate at the German institute of family health in the city of Frankfurt am Main. There, he worked on a range of project concentrating on the role of environment and social supports in the families of patients with chronic diseases. In this capacity, he also took part in a number of joint-research projects with international partners.Back at Münster, Jörg started working as a research associate at the division of genetic engineering and stress response in the University of Würzburg. At this lab, he developed a handheld Genetic testing assay toolkit called HaxPrep, which helps researchers assess the fitness of different strains of animals for disease. This work led to the development of a new strain of the bottlenose dolphin, Dtac: the first federallyProtected marine mammal with a human-caused genetic disease.After nearly 10 years at the University of Münster, Jörg moved on to the University of Hamburg in 2011 to become a research associate in the Department of Endocrinology. At Hamburg, Jörg worked on a range of projects focusing on the role of vitamins and diet in human health. He also completed a research Fellowship entitled “Vitamins and minerals inducers and desversifiers of energy metabolism” at The Alfred Nobel Foundation in Oslo, Norway.Jörg has mainly been working on developing genetic methodology for “ marker-based knockouts and inactivation technology”. In this project, Jörg creates knockout mice that are deficient in a certain gene, and then years later Hodgkin's lymphoma cell line is used to knockout that particular gene in the mouse embryos. After knockoutting the gene, Jörg is then able to measure the expression of that gene in the knockout mice, and use this data to develop a protocol for inactivating that gene.He is currently a research associate in the Department of Genetics and Genomics of the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, carrying out a project entitled “The role of SIRT1 in cancer”. Jörg Stypmann has worked as a medical doctor since he was a teenager. He completed his medical degree in 1988 at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, where he worked as a Fliegerarzt and eventually became a Chefarzt. He then completed his surgical training at the Universitätsklinikum Münster and worked as a assistant professor there before moving to the Department of Cardiology and Angiologie at the Universitätsklinikum Münster in 2003. From there, he moved as a departmental Director to the Asklepios Südpfalzklinik in Kandel in 2006. He has also worked as a assistant professor at the Department of Kardiologie and Angiologie at the Universitätsklinikum Münster from 2006 to present.
