The only way we as a worldwide community can continue designing is if we begin to create intelligent design. Many products on the market today don’t deserve to exist. We need to simplify all of life’s complex problems and look at everything in a whole new way. If we look at nature and the world around us we can find new ways to reduce material & increase efficiency. I am a product designer but I don’t just want to create products, I want to create an experience. Through intelligent design we all can create products and experiences that will positively affect not only the user directly but the world indirectly. We need to create honest designs that improve people’s lives and therefore deserve to exist in an intelligent world.Chief Product Officer @ From October 2015 to Present (2 months) Head of Product Development @ Our mission is to help people feel happy and confident about their whole bodies, especially at their most intimate level. Chiaro combines women's and men's needs with research and innovation to transform the way people think and feel about themselves. My role is to lead the design & manufacture of all hardware products. Our first product is elvie, a kegal/pelvic floor smart exerciser. Elvie guides, corrects and visualises your kegel exercises in real time. Please find more information here: https://www.elvie.com/ From June 2014 to September 2015 (1 year 4 months) Design Engineer @ Dyson is one of the best and most creative technology companies in the world. Starting in 1993 with just a handful of designers and engineers including James Dyson they have grown to have a current revenue of in excess of one billion pounds and sell products in more than 50 countries. My role was to lead a development team through our product cycle. I have had the opportunity to work on a range of very successfully products across categories such as 'Floorcare', 'Environmental control' & 'Cordless Technology'. In 2013 I transferred to Malaysia to help with product transfer to manufacture & was part of our DFM & production trouble shooting team. From June 2011 to June 2014 (3 years 1 month) Product Design Phd @ I’m a focused passionate and calculated designer and due to this I was offered a full Phd Scholarship by the University of Limerick to continue researching and developing new products for gait physiotherapy. This was a great opportunity to work with a small team researching and creating a new generation of products that could help children and parents standard of life. Unfortunately I felt that I needed more industrial experience to really push this project in the direction I wanted. It takes years to build and design a great product and only seconds to destroy your vision if the product isn’t the best it can be for this reason I have taking a few years out to gain as much high end industrial experience as possible and hopefully return to this project and finish my Phd. From August 2010 to June 2011 (11 months) Founder and Director @ Always look for the positive. Even though the recession was a tough time for alot of people an amazing thing happened we all became entrepreneurs over night. People naturally want to success and do well so when you take away opportunities they once had they being to create and develop their own. This is great for start up businesses and for new creative industries. To help encourage and nurture these new entrepreneurs I created an Innovation Centre within the college frame work. The system was funded by Enterprise Ireland through their Innovation voucher scheme and teamed up fresh graduates with new entrepreneurs and together they would work on new and exciting projects. This was brilliant because it gave graduates their first real design project and if they done well and the product received grant or investment funding they could even be hired full time into a new exciting company. Also the entrepreneurs got a crash course in product design, market research and the importance of protecting your ideas. From August 2010 to June 2011 (11 months) Founder and Head Designer @ This was a very exciting time in my design career because it was the first time I interacting and working with people as passionate and excited by great design and intelligent thinking as I was. In the short time I worked on freelance contract projects I managed to complete 9 projects. Unfortunately Ireland was deep in the global recession and even with some great products and amazing entrepreneurs it was very difficult for individuals to receive the large amount of capital they would need to produce their products. Lucky we now live in much more exciting times and with companies and individuals understanding how important good ideas and great entrepreneurs are funding is now alot more achievable and with the development of home 3D printing we can even create home industries that design build and sell from a front room. I’m hoping to revisit some of these projects and help these young Irish entrepreneurs make their ideas a reality. From June 2010 to June 2011 (1 year 1 month) Mechanical Designer @ Modular Automation design manufacture and build special purpose machines and automation equipment for a wide range of industries. They have a team of experts that will custom build to match the needs of individual customer applications or manufacture to existing designs if required. They listen to what their customers say and provide engineering solutions that add competitive advantage to their business. Their experience, confidence and strength puts them in a position to deliver a unique proposition that is beyond that of their competitors. They pride themselves on expertise in the areas of Cam Operated Assembly Machines, for the Electronic Connector Industry and high speed Robot Automation with particular emphasis on Injection Moulding transfer systems. I gained all my basic engineering skills with this brilliant company and as well as working on some very large million euro projects I also had the opportunity to develop new designs for international clients and pitch new technologies and creative assembly processes. From January 2008 to December 2010 (3 years) First Class Honours, Product Design and Technology @ University of Limerick From 2006 to 2010 Renewable Energy, 3.8 @ Limerick Institute of Technology From 2005 to 2006 Jonathan Toole is skilled in: Product Design, Engineering, Problem Solving, Product Lifecycle Management, Tolerance Analysis, Unig, Concept Generation, Concept Development, Autodesk Software, Solidworks, Design Engineering, Project Management, Design for Manufacturing, Rapid Prototyping, Model Making
