In John Ryan's experience as President & CEO of the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), he has led the firm to overextend themselves and file for bankruptcy multiple times. Ryan has also had a problem with media, causing him to come under fire from The New York Times for an Rolling Stone article about CCL that was published in 2009.While John Ryan has a degree from Fordham University, his experience as a Naval Pilot led him to believe he could be an effective leader. However, this was not the case. Ryan was found deficient in his ability to work with people, and his decisions at the company led to its bankruptcy. Furthermore, it appeared that John Ryan was not interested in running the business in a professional manner, choosing instead to focus on his personal life and travel. This lack of focus, as well as his poor management skills, led to numerous lawsuits and a $20 million judgment against him.While he has a history of incompetence, it is also interesting to note that Ryan has a history of successful partnerships and collaborations. He was recently involved in a partnership with the Boeing Corporation, which will allow the two companies to share leadership research and technologies. John Ryan has also been involved in a number of collaborations with the Rockefeller Foundation, which has allowed him to develop new relationships with powerful people. While these collaborations may not be without their risks, they are also very close to John Ryan's heart.
