I have grown tired of watching technology projects across the Federal Government, The Department of Defense and the corporate / enterprise world continue to take too long, cost too much or fail altogether.
I maintain there is so much that our government / enterprise clients can learn by mirroring the way start-up companies build and deploy technologies to deploy fast, learn what works, iterate and wow their users.
Keeping one foot in DC and one foot in Silicon Valley, 540 is hell bent on helping clients move past the failures and glacial pace of enterprise technology projects and begin building, learning and deploying value producing tech in record time.
Just trying to #getshitdone.
Founder @ Technology consulting geeks who help government and business clients innovate like start-ups.
Mission
Working to inject a little Silicon Valley tech into the Federal Government / Department of Defense... crazy huh?
Description
What if your agency or department could deliver technology solutions that
wow your users at the same speed that start-up companies deliver capabilities to the internet?
Tech Strategy
Software Development
API Design / Dev
Data Analytics (I hate saying the word BigData)
DevOps
We also maintain and support various open projects:
Fed {API} - Government data in easy to consume APIs.

yourTwapperkeeper - Open source Twitter archiving tool (an oldie but a goodie recently upgraded to handle V1.1 of Twitter API - though it needs a major UI facelift).
https://github.com/540co/yourTwapperKeeper From March 2013 to Present (2 years 10 months) Washington D.C. Metro AreaFounder @ There is so much government data across the internet, but it is difficult to make sense of it all. Budget data, procurement data, acquisition data, you name it, it's out there on the web.
Using crawlers, algorithms, crowdsourcing, and sometimes brute force - we capture, correlate, and expose government data to enterprise and government application developers through easy to use APIs. From May 2013 to Present (2 years 8 months) Director of Technology Services @ Responsible for managing and delivering the technology projects to our Federal and commercial clients ranging from the development of custom web / mobile applications to the implementation of COTS products (ERP, BI, etc).
Often focused on showing the art of the possible leveraging emerging technologies even when our clients aren't ready and it makes them uncomfortable. (I want them to know what is possible and how to get there!)
Promote the use of agile development and delivery processes to deliver fast, learn fast, and iterate fast. Constantly looking for ways to improve the usability and interoperability of the capabilities we are delivering. From October 2010 to March 2013 (2 years 6 months) Founder @ (Acquired by HootSuite Media, Inc September 2011. Acted as a consultant thru integration period.)
A weekend science project to learn the Twitter API that evolved into a grant funded web start-up, TwapperKeeper was a Twitter application that allowed users to archive, organize, and analyze tweets based upon #hashtags, keywords, and @persons.
Used heavily by academic organizations, conference leaders, and marketing departments to track, monitor, and analyze Twitter traffic.
Exposed API for third party applications to leverage archive engine for extraction and analysis (removed at the request of Twitter due to ToS).
Released yourTwapperKeeper (http://your.twapperkeeper.com), an open version of the platform, in August 2010 to allow user to host their own archiving service. Project is maintained at https://github.com/jobrieniii/yourTwapperKeeper.
Personally responsible for all aspects of development, support, and marketing.

- “federalizing” Oracle's Advanced Procurement / iSupplier capabilities to support DoD procurement and supplier invoicing
- prototyping a supplier facing portal to provide visibility across n-number of ERPs and single sign from portal to ERPs From June 2008 to September 2010 (2 years 4 months) Co-founder @ A Facebook Verified App and Top 50 Fbfund winner that enabled users to setup group buys for products they wanted to buy and allowed vendors to bid on the team's business (think: aggregate spend + reverse auction).
Responsible for development, deployment, and marketing of application on top of Facebook platform.
Looked good on paper. Got some buzz. But forgot to really engage with the customers and learn early. And Groupon was better. We simply didn't learn and pivot fast enough. Eric Ries would roll his eyes. Made decision to shut-down at end of December 2009. Painful learning experience.
But you learn so much by failing, right?
