Jo Ann Barefoot is currently the CEO of Jo Ann Barefoot Group, LLC from April 2000 to December 2010, and is consulting for financial companies in consumer protection and other regulatory matters. Overseas, she was CEO at Barefoot Marrinan & Associates from 1982 to 1996 and was also founding and building the premier consultative firm providing bank regulatory advice on consumer financial protection. In the United States, she was a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government from 1995 to 2000 and led the establishment of the OCC's original consumer protection unit focused on examinations and enforcement of the consumer, community reinvestment, and fair lending laws for all national banks. Jo Ann also led KPMG's financial industry consulting practice for consumer and community issues, built a nationwide retail bank advisory team, and headed the firm's privacy consulting initiative. In February 2011, Jo Ann became Deputy Comptroller of the Currency and served as the staff appointee of the full committee chairman, William Proxmire, to the Subcommittee on Housing and Urban Affairs. She also became a keynote speaker on financialTechnology and Regtech and reached thousands of people annually in the U.S. and throughout the world. She is currently the Senior Fellow of the Center for Business and Government at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and is writing a book on financial innovation and regulation. In January 2017 she transitioned to Senior Fellow Emerita status (working on her book on financial innovation and regulation), and is still a keynote speaker on financial technology and regtech.Jo Ann also has experience in angel Investing and venture capitalization.
