Yanofsky then became the the assistant superintendent of the Department of Special Education in New York City. In 1997, Yanofsky left her post as assistant superintendent to become the director of the Yanofsky Center for Creative Education at the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Yanofsky has been the director of the Yanofsky Center for Creative Education at the University of Massachusetts at Boston since 1997.
