Bernheim’s legal education took him to the University of Miami School of Law, where he earned an JD in 1998. Bernheim then worked as a law clerk for Judge Royce Lamberth on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. From 2001 to 2002, Bernheim was a law professor at the University of Miami School of Law. Bernheim left the University of Miami in 2002 to take a job as a federal prosecutor in the New York District Attorney’s Office. Bernheim served as New York District Attorney from 2002 to 2006. From 2006 to 2010, Bernheim was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York. Bernheim was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010, and was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Bernheim is now a member of the U.S. Senate from New York.
