From November 2007 to August 2013 (5 years 10 months) San Francisco Bay AreaEngineering Manager, Mobile Browser @ I managed the team responsible for the Openwave Mobile Browser, and for the browser component of the Openwave Phone Tools, acting both as manager and technical lead. I managed a dozen engineers directly, provided direct technical leadership to two dozen engineers, and represented my team in cross-functional meetings at all levels in the company. As a software architect, I redesigned and led the matching refactoring of the browser to add support for JavaScript. This included managing the technical aspect of a related acquisition. I also had responsibility over the public APIs that were used to embed the browser into cell phones. As a software engineer, I wrote the memory manager that the browser used to handle the increase in document complexity when the mobile world transitioned from WAP to HTML. I also wrote a variety of smaller features, related to UI, security, MMS. From October 2001 to November 2007 (6 years 2 months) San Francisco Bay AreaSoftware Engineer, Graphics & Kernel @ I architected and played a major role in the implementation of Be's build system, a non-recursive scalable and highly configurable system based on GNU make. I worked on adding support for USB HID into BeOS. I helped with performance-related work as Be switched toolchains between BeOS R3 and BeOS R4. I led the development of the demo device that was used to support Be's IPO presentations. I ported Sim City 3000 from Windows to BeOS. I wrote Be's test and certification suite for 2D graphics drivers.
