I'm a passionate person driven to build disruptive technology to better humanity.
I have an active interest in dis-intermediating incumbents within industries where the establishment has become comfortable and disingenuous. My initial foray into this field, was joining a small New Zealand startup that produced network technology to monitor multi-gigabit links with - at the time - unparalleled visibility with 0 packet loss. While there, I was exposed to problems involving the storage and mining of TBs of data for deep packet inspection, which sparked my interest in big data problems. We leveraged this technology into a multimillion dollar company recently acquired by a US company.
I have pursued this passion for big data problems at my current engagement: dis-intermediating the Taxi industry in Australia. At goCatch, we are attempting to automate the problem of locating the optimum Taxi for a passenger at any given time, day and location, building a better service in the process.
I also have an active interest in tech charitable work; of note winning a recent 48 hr hackathon that produced an App for St John Ambulance and further developed for active deployment in the field: http://www.vodafone.com.au/aboutvodafone/vodafoneaustraliafoundation/appaid
CEO @ From March 2015 to Present (8 months) Sydney Area, AustraliaTechnical Consultant @ www.gamurs.com
The best social network for the gaming community by a country mile. From May 2015 to Present (6 months) CTO/Head of Engineering @ I'm responsible for all aspects of software engineering, including: design and development of the server/client architecture, patent protection and recruitment.
goCatch presents some unique engineering challenges; we handle real-time updates from thousands of drivers and passengers, thousands of automated job dispatches a week and big data problems to maximise successful conversions between passengers and drivers.
To do this effectively we employ a range of the latest technologies, including: Scala/JVM, Cloud Services, Hadoop, NoSQL and support most mobile platforms, iOS, Android, Windows Mobile 8 and Blackberry 10. From December 2011 to February 2015 (3 years 3 months) Sydney Area, AustraliaSenior Software Architect @ As part of the CTO team, I'm responsible for directing and collaborating with Engineering on defining the software architecture for the Endace product line for the next 5 years. In particular, I focused on the application of the Endace probe monitoring platform to mobile UTRAN/UMTS and evolved networks such LTE/EPC and WiMax; with specific reference to the evolving threat landscape from smartphones on mobile infrastructure. From January 2011 to December 2011 (1 year) Hamilton, New ZealandApplications Manager @ This period of time saw the evolution of Endace's Dock program for hosting 3rd party applications on the Endace Probe. As applications manager, I oversaw the development of Endace's Dock application bundle. Specifically, the development of ESM (Endace Security Manager) and ELM (Endace Latency Manager) for the Dock platform. From July 2010 to January 2011 (7 months) Hamilton, New ZealandSecurity Manager @ 2008 saw Endace's acquisition of Applied Watch Technologies as its first step into the cyber security space. In my position as Security Manager, I oversaw the integration of Applied Watch IP and technology onto the Endace Probe; this required an extended period of time in Chicago to ensure a seemless transition to New Zealand while this took place. The integration was a success with Telstra and BetFair, among others, now large customers of the ESM (Endace Security Manager). From February 2008 to September 2010 (2 years 8 months) Senior Software Engineer @ I was an integral member of Endace's software team that developed the first Endace Probe for Sprint. In 2011 Endace's Probe sales now account for over 60% of its EOY revenue. From November 2006 to 2008 (2 years) HamiltonSoftware Engineer @ Developed embedded software for the Intel XScale processor and low level linux packet processing software. From April 2005 to October 2006 (1 year 7 months) HamiltonCo-Founder & CTO @ Co-founded a startup focusing on writing software for re-training prisoners for reintegration back into society; our initial product was a CBT tool for educating prisoners on the use of sawmills. From January 2000 to January 2001 (1 year 1 month) Palmerston North
