Burke studied at York University where she earned a B.A. in 1995. In 1998, she completed her M.A. in Sociology and Social Policy. After receiving her M.A. in Sociology and Social Policy, Burke worked as an assistant professor at Western University where she earned her J.D. in 2002. During her time at Western University, Burke served as an instructor in Sociology and Social Policy and as the Coordinator for the Global Justice Clinic. Since her time as an instructor at Western University, Burke has focused her attention on working with students in her own field of study, Sociology and Social Policy. In her current work, Burke is a member of the faculty of the University of Calgary’s School of Business and a Research Fellow of the University of Ottawa’s Institute for Research on Globalization. In her current role, Burke is working on a project titled “The Relationship of Education and WorkSpaces: Bridging the Gap between Theory and Practice.” In this project, Burke is looking at ways to help students embed their education into their work lives. Burke is also a member of the editorial board and the board of directors for both the Canadian Sociological Association and the Canadian sociological journal. Burke is also a frequent panelist and participant at national and international conferences, most recently appearing on the Canadian Sociological Association’s Annual Meeting in Toronto in early 2018.
