I help design businesses tell their story, to the right audience, in the most compelling way, to help them win more of the work they really want to do. Bringing a strong strategic focus, I work with designers, architects and engineers. I have a hybrid background of Marketing and Communications, Project Management and Writing. During my 15+ years of professional experience in London and Sydney, Australia, I have worked across the creative industries from architecture to advertising, graphic design and branding, to product design and engineering. I have worked with Arup, Arup International Development, Aston Martin Racing, Caro Communications, e.hdm Agency, Emirates, Endpoint, Greater London Authority (GLA), Grimshaw, Hassell, KPF Architects, New London Architecture (NLA), Sony, THERE Branding + Design, Transport for London (TfL), Onbrand and more. I have an MA in Design History from the Royal College of Art, London, and have written for a number of design magazines including Indesign, DQ and Australian Creative. www.jackiehawkins.com Twitter: @JaxHawkinsContract. Director of Marketing & Brand @ I'm leading on Marketing & Brand at Endpoint, responsible for strategy, planning, execution and evaluation. A key focus has been to lead the rebrand, liaising with brand and design agencies Goosebumps and The Allotment. I project managed the design of all new collateral, including writing all the content for the new website. The new brand was launched successfully in October 2015, to both London and Dubai studios. It led to a number of new business meetings and activity, in London and in the Middle East, and increased business development opportunities with existing clients. From January 2015 to Present (1 year) London, United KingdomContract. Marketing & Brand Manager @ From August 2014 to Present (1 year 5 months) London, United KingdomContract. Project Manager - TfL/GLA Heathrow City: developing the vision @ The Mayor of London is urging the Airports Commission to consider the potential for a new hub airport in the Thames Estuary and the redevelopment of the existing Heathrow site. I project managed the design and delivery, and created content for 'Heathrow City: developing the vision' - an exhibition at the NLA, a publication, website and a series of Think Tanks to explore, generate content and raise awareness of this proposal. Three leading architectural practices – Hawkins\Brown, Maccreanor Lavington and Rick Mather Architects – were tasked with visualising the potential of the proposed ‘vacant’ Heathrow site to provide new homes, jobs and a vibrant new destination for London. Their ideas were showcased in the exhibition, from 15 July - 09 August 2014. www.heathrow-city.com #heathrowcity From May 2014 to August 2014 (4 months) london, united kingdomContract. PR @ While freelancing at Caro Communications I was part of the team responsible for the worldwide publicity of the opening of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, T3 in Shenzhen, China, designed by Studio Fuksas. I also assisted the Architecture and Design teams on a number of accounts including: Guerrilla Tactics event at the RIBA, Pearson Lloyd, Glenn Howells Architects, Pollard Thomas Edwards architects, Maccreanor Lavington, Techniker, New London Architecture (NLA) and Artemide. From August 2013 to February 2014 (7 months) london, united kingdomContract. Global Marketing and Communications/Writer @ Strategic direction, content creation and project management of collateral for Arup International Development. A specialist, not-for-profit business within Arup, it partners with humanitarian and development organisations to help strengthen the impact of their work. I helped them to define who they are, what they do and why they are different, articulating this into a verbal brand and company profile for marketing collateral. I wrote numerous Project Profiles (text) for use in web and print and set up Marketing and Communications systems to help with future promotion. During my time within the Global Marketing and Communications department (GMC) at Arup, I created content for a number of ad hoc writing projects. This included web copy, a global corporate brochure, global award entry, global Sports brochure and DETAIL magazine Arup special issue. I also created content and helped devise the programme for the Global Buildings Forum, held in Amsterdam. Working in collaboration with the Foresight and Innovation team, we devised a programme that would bring the global leaders of the Practice together to share ideas. Over the two-day event they undertook interactive workshops, learnt from a number of prominent thought-leaders in the field brought in as speakers, and discussed the strategic future of the Practice. From July 2012 to July 2013 (1 year 1 month) London, United KingdomContract. Senior Communications Advisor @ A part-maternity cover for the Head of Communications at HASSELL, Australasia’s largest architectural practice. I was brought in to provide senior level strategic communications advice, to manage and implement several priority communication projects and to provide ad hoc high-level writing support. Key responsibilities include providing strategic advice and implementation support for the launch of the London studio, developing a proactive Media and Publicity Plan for Australasia and the project management of Multitudes - a 75th anniversary book. From April 2011 to August 2012 (1 year 5 months) Contract. Marketing and Communications/Writer @ Following a global brand refresh, I was commissioned to re-craft all written communications for Arup Australasia, ensuring it was consistent and on-brand. I created a ‘standard copy library’ containing text for all the engineering business lines, markets and services across all eight offices in Australia, Singapore and New Zealand. I also re-wrote and project managed the firm’s ‘Project Sheets’, across Australasia. I become an integrated member of the team, contributing content to strategic ‘thought-leader’ initiatives and to the high profile High Speed Rail tender, that proposes to link cities along the East coast in Australia. From 2010 to 2010 (less than a year) Sydney, AustraliaContract. Marketing and Communications @ Marketing and Communications Manager for The 6th ReelDance International Dance on Screen Festival, the largest event celebrating the collision of art, dance and film in Australia. It travelled to over 17 venues and 10 cities nationwide. I project managed the identity design for the event along with the various pieces of collateral. I secured sponsors for the festival, managed the PR agency, liaised with all 17 venues, and provided a Design Brief and Marketing Plan for the 2012 event. This biennial event presents cutting edge film and video from diverse dance genres created by Australian, Indigenous and international directors and performers. From 2010 to 2010 (less than a year) Sydney, AustraliaExpedition Leader/Driver/Mechanic - Africa and South America @ A radical sabbatical! Lucky enough to work across two continents whilst at this leading adventure-travel overland company, I first co-drove a full truck of 24 passengers from Quito in Ecuador to Rio, Brazil. Posted on to Africa, I then began leading trips on almost every Dragoman route in East and Southern Africa, culminating in a London-Cape Town ‘Trans’ driving across Europe, through the Middle East and down the length of Africa. Thinking on your feet under challenging conditions was paramount, be this dealing with emergency truck repairs, last minute route changes due to washed away roads/bridges or protests, illnesses and accidents, or negotiation with border officials and corrupt policing commonplace in the developing world. From 2007 to 2009 (2 years) Senior Project Manager @ As the senior manager at this branding and design consultancy, I supervised a team of three designers and one administrator. My primary role was to plan, monitor, execute and ensure successful completion of all design and communications projects in the office. Our work focused mainly on branded experiences for the built environment - wayfinding and environmental graphics. I was largely the first point of contact for all our clients, liaising with them to take briefs, developing ideas with the design team and then ensuring that all projects are managed smoothly on-time and on-budget. I was also responsible for the day-to-day scheduling of work through the studio, creating fee proposals and developing the profile of the company through general and targeted marketing activities, including press, PR and awards entries. In consultation with the Directors my remit also extended to involvement with the company’s strategic development, optimising existing relationships with clients, researching and bringing in new business. Clients included SJB Architects, Bates Smart Architects, Hassell Architects, Orient Express Hotels, Australian Radio Network, MLC Centre, amongst others. From January 2005 to December 2007 (3 years) Sydney, AustraliaSenior Project Manager (Freelance) @ I was project manager on two main accounts: Aston Martin Racing and Wesleyan Financial Services. I co-ordinated the design development and print of a first-class, limited edition, Prospectus and digital presentation produced to entice potential sponsors for the newly launched Aston Martin Racing Team. This intensive project involved very tight deadlines and considerable client liaison with Prodrive, the racing specialists responsible for the DBR9 and with Aston Martin themselves. I also managed all provisional elements of the re-branding of a bespoke financial service for the teaching profession by Wesleyan Financial Services, co-ordinating the naming process, new marque, photography, brand implementation, planning and budgets. From 2004 to 2004 (less than a year) Birmingham, United KingdomFreelance @ Established by four friends and fellow graduates from the Royal College of Art, this new product design consultancy rapidly earned tremendous international critical acclaim with the launch of the eglu™ - the world’s most desirable chicken house! I was involved in the early development of this product and company. www.omlet.co.uk From 2004 to 2004 (less than a year) Senior Project Manager and New Business @ This Graphic Design specialist for clients in the built environment required assistance with project management and new business. This client-facing role included a new brand identity and collateral for Soren Jensen Consulting Engineers, Denmark; a product colour/trend study for SCA Hygiene Products, Sweden, and marketing communications collateral for Atkins Consulting Engineers, Oxford and architects Berman Guedes Stretton. From August 2003 to December 2003 (5 months) Oxford, United KingdomProject Manager (Freelance) @ This renowned consultancy specialise in the explanation and promotion of architecture, property and the built environment. Wordsearch designed and produced an exhibition and publication for the BBC entitled ‘Building the BBC – A Return to Form’. This high-profile exhibition celebrated the corporation’s commitment to undertake one of the most ambitious building programmes currently in the UK, and it’s history of architectural and design patronage. I helped coordinate with the architects of the schemes: MacCormac Jamieson Prichard, David Chipperfields and Allies and Morrison for their contributions to the touring exhibition; with Block, the 3D designers of the exhibition on its production and on-site installation; with venues and arts bookshops around the country, organising the tour and negotiating book distribution; and with the opening venue itself – the Royal Institute of British Architects on arrangements for the launch. This exhibition toured successfully around the UK and sales of the book were favourable. From March 2003 to June 2003 (4 months) London, United KingdomPress/Public Relations & Project Manager @ My main responsibility within the Marketing department was to generate press and present a professional public face for this busy architectural practice. A high level of diplomacy was required due to the key position of the practice in the high-profile ‘tall-buildings’ dispute in the media. The proposed hi-rise Heron Tower in the City of London became the focal point of scrutiny following the events of 9/11 in the U.S. I also acted as Project Manager for a monograph on the work of the practice, ‘KPF-Vision and Process, Europe 1990-2002’ liaising with graphic designers Pentagram, the distinguished architectural critic Ken Powell and the publishers, Birkhauser. From 2001 to 2001 (less than a year) London, United KingdomNew Media Account Manager @ As an Account Manager at HDM - an established top independent advertising agency in London – I helped establish e.hdm, the new digital division. I implemented new media strategies, managing website front-end design, online advertising and gave advice on digital marketing solutions to clients including Sony, Emirates, Continental Airlines and Multimap.com. This role also involved events management for Sony Europe. The agency designed and produced Sony’s prestigious annual product launch event ‘vip2001’, held in Venice, Italy. I was responsible for several aspects of the event, including venue liaison, event decoration, costumes and models. I also managed the design development and production of the communications marketing for the event. This included a series of print mail-outs, an evolving website and post-event cd-rom – all produced in four languages. This intensive event required significant stamina, a sense of humour and nerves of steel! From 2000 to 2000 (less than a year) London, United KingdomCommunications Assistant/Manager @ I was responsible for a team of three for this high-profile and busy practice dealing with all publicity and public relations matters, including exhibitions, lectures, awards and publications in addition to developing the profile of the company through strategic and general marketing activities. Copy writing, editing and proof-reading, co-ordination of print design and production, commissioning of architectural photography, events management and the formative planning of the practice website and Phaidon publication ‘Equilibrium – the work of Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners’, were also key roles. I liaised with the British Council, Design Council and Arts Council of England on several exhibitions. Key achievements included elevating the early profile of the now acclaimed Eden Project, Cornwall and exhibition management of the international travelling industrial design exhibition ‘Fusion’. Fusion won a Red Dot Award and achieved international acclaim. I co-ordinated all elements of the tour in the UK and in Europe including its transportation, insurance, the sourcing of venues, liaison with Press and TV and exhibition sponsors, on-site installation and the opening-night events. From 1997 to 1999 (2 years) London, United KingdomMaster's Degree, M.A. History of Design @ Royal College of Art From 2001 to 2003 Jackie Hawkins is skilled in: Integrated Marketing, Editing, Project Management, Marketing, Copywriting, Strategy, Event Management, Public Relations, Strategic Communications, Networking, Business Development, Creative Services, Brand Awareness, Brand Strengthening, Brand Ambassadorship
