🎓 Education
What his education stressed was the importance of hard work and sustained engagement with learning. Wessen credits his outdoor and outdoor activities as his main form of exposure to various sciences and mathematics. This exposure left him with a strong interest in the natural sciences, which he pursued at UCSB. The natural sciences emphasisallowed Wessen to develop strong working knowledge in physics, mathematics, and astronomy, which he hone in his current work. Outdoor activities were such a large part of Wessen's upbringing that, upon his graduation from UCSB, he decided to become a professional cyclist. He took a gap year before starting his academic career, as he didn't want his education to be a one-time event. Wessen enjoyed working on his own research projects and was able to publish his first research article in a physics journal in his third year. This experience taught him how to develop and maintain strong working knowledge in physics. Upon starting his academic career, Wessen quickly realized that he needed to focus on the development of his research in order to achieve the high scientific productivity and publish quality work. This focus was essential to his success and helped him achieve several important milestones such as winning the prestigious IOP prestigiousscience award in 2016, as well as furthering his research into holography. Both of these accomplishments were a result of his dedication to his research and his focus on the development of his work.
