Involved diving deep into assembly.• Various third party integrations of varying complexity, depth of integration, and performance requirements.• Saved roughly 47% (and improving) in backup storage costs by proper tiering of backups (cold, warm and hot storage). Net savings is somewhere in the high tens of thousands a year. All for noticing a simple misconfiguration.• Implemented a partner API. I also provided the tier-of-last-resort customer support for this API among other things.• Automated the generation of the partner API documentation, client code and server stubs for massively increased developer productivity.• Various performance and site reliability improvements. For example, fixing less than optimal settings resulted in strong performance improvements of the web application to customers while reducing computing costs.• Various features that enabled MM dollars in new business. • Migrated the search infrastructure to an entirely new back-end (scoping, planning, implementation and operations).• The search back-end migration unlocked a large set of possible functionality and vastly improved existing features (a 10 millisecond wait for a search result versus a 5 second wait).• Shamed others into code quality improvements. Encouraged code review as a requirement rather than a nice-to-have thing. Doing prevented countless accidents (at least 2 notable ones) as well as a major reduction in new technical debt.• Established a process to measure technical debt and drive improvements.• Mentored engineering interns and new hires. Also served on the hiring committee as was a technical interviewer.
