VP Engineering @ From August 2015 to Present (5 months) Head of Technology - Group Platform @ In this role, I am responsible for 100+ people, a budget of $18m and 12 streams of work to deliver strategic business capabilities for REA. I started with a team of 25 people and scaled the team to 100+ people. I designed a system of work that will enable us to scale in the future. I turned around two teams that are demotivated in working on a very archaic back office system into energetic teams that have clear purpose and direction. From April 2013 to July 2015 (2 years 4 months) Melbourne, AustraliaIteration Manager @ In this role, I led multiple product teams in building customer products. I initiated few changes in the way we build products, such as reduced the deployment frequency from once every fortnight to once a day, so we can get faster feedback and hence experiment faster. I created alignment between Testing, Operations and Development, so the team takes greater ownership from end to end. I drive few initiatives within the company to promote greater sharing of idea, such as weekly brownbags and monthly company showcases. From June 2011 to April 2013 (1 year 11 months) Melbourne, AustraliaIteration Manager @ I began my Agile Software Development journey in this role. I introduced some of the Agile software practices into the organisation, such as Test Driven Development and Behaviour Driven Development. I was primarily responsible for the core product of Aconex. From January 2010 to June 2011 (1 year 6 months) Melbourne, AustraliaDevelopment Manager @ In this role, I was responsible for the Middleware tier of the application. My focus was heavily on quality as the code base is very monolithic and breaks easily. I initiated few improvements to improve the quality of the code base, such as, reduced build time to get faster feedback, improve Continuous Integration culture to maintain the integrity of the build, instill Clean Code philosophy to help change the mindset of the developers. From December 2008 to January 2010 (1 year 2 months) Melbourne, AustraliaSenior Software Engineer @ I was heavily involved in the search functionality. There was quite a number of challenges with scale. Aconex was in growing phase and we had few big clients that starting to use our applications. Our documents storage goes from Gigabytes to Terabytes. I was instrumental in improving the scaling of our search functionality and ensuring the integrity of the search index. From January 2006 to December 2008 (3 years) Melbourne, AustraliaSoftware Engineer @ I continued my role in developing SGI Clustered Filesystem Driver for Mac OS X. The biggest lesson I learnt from this role is about having performance mindset in software development. I am also a very versatile developer who can adapt easily to different environment. Before I left the company, I was the only person in SGI Melbourne that knew how to debug the filesystem kernel dump in Windows, Mac OS X, Solaris and Linux. From September 2003 to January 2006 (2 years 5 months) Melbourne, AustraliaSoftware Engineer @ I started my career as a QA engineer working on SGI Clustered Filesystem driver for Windows. The biggest lesson for me in this role is in developing a user centric mindset, by understanding how the user would use the system and what sort of problems that the user will experience. This project was then brought back to SGI to be developed in-house. From January 2002 to September 2003 (1 year 9 months) Melbourne, Australia
