I started NorthLink Mobility in the fall of 2009 to provide a non-ambulance alternative for patients requiring stretcher transportation. NorthLink helps its customers in a variety of ways: (1) patients being discharged from Twin Cities or Rochester hospitals need to get back to outstate Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota or elsewhere (2) some patients require round trip transportation back to higher-level-care facilities for follow up visits; (3) hospice patients can take a more comfortable, relaxing last ride home with NorthLink than with an ambulance; and (4) bariatric patients - up to 600 pounds - need stretcher transport after being discharged from a hospital, and find that NorthLink is much more comfortable and pleasant than an ambulance ride. Patients ride in one of our 470 cubic foot Dodge Sprinter vans, equipped with a stretcher for the patient and a couch next to the stretcher for family. We are uniquely set up to assist patients when moving to new facilities: our vans have plenty of room for caregivers, family, wheelchairs, furniture and other belongings. Private pay customers are thrilled when their social worker tells them there is a non-ambulance option: NorthLink. When the patient is stable but requiring a stretcher for long distances, NorthLink can save thousands of dollars each ride when compared to ambulance rates. Even if the patient requires some basic medical care (dressings, bathroom issues, suction, etc.) a nurse or family member can ride along and provide assistance. A growing number of social workers and nurse case managers are using NorthLink and giving their patients a more comfortable, better option for longer medical trips.
