Born in the Belgian town of Doel, Freddy Loof worked at his family's hosiery and skinnery business until he graduated from high school in 1965. Freddy then joined the military, enlisting in the Belgian Armed Forces as a young man. Loof attended Sint-Lucas Oudenaarde in Belgium and then studied with VTI Sint-Lucas Oudenaarde, a leading business school in Belgium.
