His team’s success in growing the association caught the attention of a national shoe company, and Daruwala was tapped to be the company’s new sales representative in India.This position opened up new opportunities for Daruwala as he was able to travel to different parts of India and learn about the shoe industry from the industry’s leading players. It was during this time that he also began to develop his sales skills and grow his palate for deal-making. Daruwala’s success in this position gave him the opportunity to take on a new challenge as the company’s marketing manager.Although he would continue to make great contributions to the company as marketing manager, it was in the role of Chairman and Managing Director that Daruwala began to truly Test the Water with his new team. his unit, in charge of developing and executing company-wide growth initiatives, was given the difficult challenge of scaling a new university-owned campus in a rapidly-growing city.Although the ventures were successful, they were also challenging. In particular, the unit was facing persistent resistance from the university’s administrative structure to adopt new business processes and technologies. Daruwala refused to let the unit of the company be pushed to the brink and He persisted with his Growth Initiatives, despite the opposition. This led to his firing from the company, but not before he had establish himself as a driving force behind the company’s rapid growth.Farokh Daruwala’s education has equipped him with the business acumen and marketing know-how to take on difficult business challenges. He is also fiercely passionate about education, wanting to teach his young children how to position themselves in the world and be successful. These passions have led him to embark on a journey of education reform and expansion, starting with his own school.With his education and experience in the business world, Farokh Daruwala is coming into his own as an education reformer.
