Eric Garcetti's Education: inequality springs eternalEric Garcetti graduated from Occidental College in 1997 with a degree in economics. He then moved on to University of Southern California, where he completed his undergraduate degree in 1984. Garcetti then started his career as a research associate at the Center for Comparative Public Policy at UCLA. There he worked on a number of important research projects, including a study of state-city income disparities and city-state government reform. From there, Garcetti moved on to the City Council of Los Angeles, where he firstserved from 2001-2006 and then from 2006-2012. There, he played a significant role in the drafting of several landmark laws, such as the Auto Theft law, the Rent Control law, and the 2011 city-state agreement. Additionally, Garcetti is well-known for his work on inequality and education, having pushed for more social and economic parity in Los Angeles. He is also a tireless advocate for the environment, having helped shape the city's environmental policies.
