The frequency map is a new visualization method for motion data that is informative and looks cool. It conveys direction and speed better than a static activity track overlay on a map.There are a number of interesting problems involved in implementing this visualization, from aesthetic design, to data storage and access, to optimization. The heatflask animation is CPU intensive and impractical to run for more than a few thousand activities at once. Many of our users are pushing the limits of what it can do. If you run it on a laptop you may hear the fan spin up and it is a drain on a mobile device's battery. We want to improve that.
