As a Top Secret cleared IT professional with over 15 years experience supporting and coaching clients, I've learned that to be successful requires humility and humour. I am a jack of many trades, and a master of finding the answers. I am passionate about curiosity; I need to know all without being a know-it-all, I have the fearlessness to pose a tough question or suggest an unorthodox solution, and the honesty to say I don't know the answer to your question. Yet.
When I started my IT career in 1997, I didn't know anything about setting up a network, configuring a switch or router, installing an OS, soldering a circuitboard, developing a security policy, installing drivers, Windows or Mac, Unix or Linux, configuring a server, using Adobe products, using Microsoft products, printers and print queues, thin or thick clients, relational databases, HTML or XML, LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPN, Blackberry or iPhone, or any of a hundred other technology products. There may be aspects of a role that I have not previously done in my career to date. Let me assure you, I can learn.
I am always out of my comfort zone, not because I don't like comfort, but because it forces me to consider alternate solutions and test my philosophies. I create my solutions by listening, probing, listening. That is my art.
