From data centres to desktops and everything in between I have made a positive difference in development, deployment and running of technology. Mobile - developing and deploying a mobile strategy for our stores colleagues to provide them with windows phones and android devices empowering colleagues to make more business aware decisions and support our customers through technology
Apple Mac - introducing the Apple Mac to the head office and integrating it with the existing windows platforms through the use if Casper Mac Management. Working with key business sponsors to develop a platform that delivered significant business benefit
Application Virtualisation - extending the existing Citrix Xen App estate to support the mobile strategy and the Apple Mac, enabling faster on boarding of 3rd party call centre support to support Christmas peak trade.
Hardware - working closely with HP to develop new in store and head office tablet, laptop and desktop solutions to driver efficiency, flexibility and mobility within the office and store.
Security - upgrading and developing a number of the core security platforms, including rationalising the number of active directory domain, upgrading the Anti Virus infrastructure, including ADFS to support cloud integrations and a new Data Leakage Prevention platform From July 2014 to Present (1 year 6 months) Infrastructure Progamme Manager - online and data centre optimisation @ Managing a number of programmes of work to centralise and optimise the Tesco global data centre platform as it moves to a private cloud deployment supporting all of Tesco’s business’s in 14 countries. Running a £24m capital and £7m revenue budget. The programmes of work are aligned to the strategy to consolidate 47 data centres into two. My roles within the projects and programmes range from governance, through architecture to hands on delivery where needed, the main achievements within the programme have included
Data centre migration for the UK on line E-Commerce platforms architecting, configuring and deploying a new virtual a physical platform to support the £3.5bn grocery and non-food websites. Managing a £7.5m infrastructure programme across multiple geographic regions and suppliers. This programme of work was short listed for the BCS Data Centre Project of the year as well as the Tesco CIO’s project of the year award
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Platforms Working with server, network, application, database and storage teams to provide a seamless DR solution for key always on applications. Providing DR and Active:Active platforms for SQL 2012, mainframe, virtual platforms and bespoke applications. Deployment and testing of a new Networker backup platform. From June 2012 to Present (3 years 7 months) Head of converged wintel development and platform @ Expanding the initial team of 8 engineers to 25 and in so doing moving from managing the wintel and storage platform for Tesco.com to include the UK retail and banking platforms. Working as a team lead as well as a senior engineer in a deployment and operational team.
• Introduction of procedures and processes to ensure the accuracy, consistency and timely delivery of all server, storage and systems management based projects
• Design and deployment of MOM,SCOM and APM monitoring solutions for onine and instore systems.
• Development and working within UK and off shore on call support teams for all wintel systems
• Design authority for wintel and storage solutions for all online product development
• Performance tuning numerous infrastructure and applications for the online grocery applications, application sizing and scaling
• The deployment of a virtualisation platform to support approx. 8,000 machines across all environments including the development of bespoke auditing and monitoring solutions
• Development of a bespoke auditing script that audits the entire virtual platform every evening for capacity and configuration management
• Deployment of a custom auditing script and CMDB for the tracking of all configuration changes within the Tesco wintel platform
