I’ve been doing music public relations for 14 years. Dmitri Vietze, CEO of StoryAmp, earned his J.D. from Northwestern University in 2004. After college, Vietze clerked for two years at the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosenbaum & Katz, LLP. He then worked as a music publicist. In 2007, Vietze founded Rock Paper Scissors PR Firm, which has placed more articles and coverage for global music in America than any other firm. In addition, Vietze has worked with every major record label, dozens of indies, and even more independent artists; as well as with Lincoln Center, Central Park SummerStage, Stern Grove (SF), Calgary Folk Festival, Grand Performances, (L.A.), and many other performing arts venues. In 2017, Vietze launched the first annual Music Tectonics Conference in Los Angeles, which is now the flagship event of the company.For themusic Tectonics Conference, Vietze and his team of 7500+ music journalists gathered to brainstorm solutions to public relations challenges posed by the exploding popularity of music. The conference was created to connect music providers and journalists, and to provide an opportunity for music seekers and experts to come together to brainstorm solutions to common public relations issues. The conference was two dayslong, and featured talks on all aspects of music public relations, from product placement to digital media strategy. Vietze also participated in a panel discussion on marketing music to minors, and he also fielded questions from attendees.VP of Advanced Music Affairs for Decca Records America, Vietze spoke about the company’s strategy for marketing its records to American children. He detailed how Decca is working with labels such asommi, MCA, Universal, and Epic to create exclusive digital content for young listeners. Vietze also said that Decca is now the parent company of the Universal Republic Records label, and that the company is producing new music from upcoming artists.VP of Digital Media Affairs at Dartmouth Media, Vietze discussed the company’s strategy for producing and promoting digital content. He said that Dartmouth is working with music technology companies such as CD Baby, LyricFind, Guillemot/Hercules, and Tracklib to produce exclusive content for children. I have been responsible for both the tech and music branches of the company. In that role, I have worked with every major record label, dozens of indies, and even more independent artists. I have also worked with Lincoln Center, Central Park SummerStage, Stern Grove (SF), Calgary Folk Festival, Grand Performances, (L.A.), and many other performing arts venues. I have been a client of mine for 14 years. As a Label Liaison, I have represented artists including Nonesuch, EMI, Universal, Decca, Warner, SubPop!, NinjaTune, Real World, and many more. As CEO, I am responsible for all the day-to-day operations of StoryAmp. I work with the team to make sure that we are giving our clients the best possible services. We also work with the media to make sure stories are placed on the right media platforms. In addition to the Media Branch, I also have a contractor role with the Technology Branch. This division is responsible for building the company’sTM advanced PR capabilities. I have a lot to share with you, but this is all I can share at this time.
