Born and brought up in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Divya Krishnamoorthy started her schooling at the age of six and completed her high school at the age of 16. She completed her undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in 1988 and her doctoral studies at the University of Florida in 1991. During her doctoral studies, she worked as a research associate at the University of Florida and IIT in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). After finishing her doctoral studies, she worked at the University of Utah for two seasons as a post-doctoral fellow. After that, she worked for the weather satellite manufacturer, Raytheon, for six seasons as a technical specialist. Then, she spent two years as a senior consultant at the sensor manufacturer, Imtech, and then she worked as a senior consultant at the manufacturer of radar sensors, Bechtel. She then worked as a senior consultant at the manufacturer of global positioning system (GPS) sensors, Harris Corporation, for two years. From there, she worked as the director of marketing and business development at Slooh, a satellite broadcaster. Then, she worked as the supervisor in healthcare management & operations at AGS Health from November 2014 to June 2018. Finally, she worked as an ARTES 5.1 Program Researcher at ESA at European Space Agency - ESA from October 2011 to October 2017.
