She grew up and attended college in the St. Louis area, before moving to San Francisco in the early 1970s to become a developer. In 1979, Gubin married her husband, David. They have two children.After working as a developer, Gubin moved to San Francisco and later took a job as a dataentry operator at Mercury Press, a publishing company. In 1992, Gubin moved to the bay area to become Vice President of Data Processing at Gulf Water Industries, a large water utility.Gubin left Gulf Water Industries in 1993 to start her own business, C-Sweet, which would become a world-renowned music publishing company. Gubin served as C-Sweet's President from 2003 to 2017.
