Dennis Fox's educational background provides a rich foundation for his professional work. At Southwestern University School of Law, he received his JD in 1976 and his BA in Political Science in 1968. Dennis also completed two years of internship at the Department of Justice's Criminal Division in 1978. After law school, Dennis worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Randall W. Hughes of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia from October 1978 to October 1979. Dennis then worked as an Unit Chief in the Political Science Department at UC Santa Barbara from October 1979 to October 1982. In 1982, Dennis began his long journey as an assistant professor at Southwestern University School of Law, teaching Political Science and Criminal Justice.
