She soon earned her B.S. in forestry from Rutgers University in 1991, and she continued her education for two years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned her degree in 1987.After her education and job experience, Deepa decided to move to India in 1993. Deepa had long dreamed of living in India, and after working in the United States for two years, she decided to come to India in search of work opportunities. She first worked as a research associate at a technical organisation in Chennai, before heading to Delhi in 1995 to make her profession official.Deepa has held various positions in businesses in India, and she has been successfully inducted into the Indian Academy of Science, Voluntarily jumped the fence of India's top business school and started her own business in 1997. She currently continues to work as the CEO of her own business. In her spare time, she also enjoys reading, playing cricket, and enjoying walks with her dog in her back garden.Deepa Desai has always found her purpose in life through her education and professional experiences. After majoring in gender studies and business administration in college, she decided to move to India in order to pursue a career in forestry. Her first job was as a district representative for the European Association for the Advancement of Science (EAAS) in Brussels, Belgium. In this role, Deepa Desai also worked with regulatory officials from around the world, Regulations Management Committees and other licensing and regulatory groups.Since then, Deepa Desai has been in a number of other senior positions at drug companies, most notably as the Corporate Counsel for a biotech company in the Africa component of the MENA region. Here, she was responsible for drafting and negotiating a variety of legal and regulatory deals with various partners in the region. In this role, she alsoacted as an external advisor to the Company’s CEO and edited their annual report.In addition to her current role at Menlo Therapeutics, Deepa Desai has also been managing the Regulatory Affairs team for the biotech company Cell Focus International, LLC and the clinical development program for Athersys, Inc. She has dedicated her life to realizing this goal, starting with her work as the President and CEO of the International Federation of Therapeutic Scientists (IFTS). As President and CEO, she created and directed the IFTS’s International Technology Network (ITTN), which represents the best practices of biomedical engineers from around the world. IATTS also houses the ISSTV, the world’s only international academy of vaccine and immunology experts.
