Levine has an extensive background in cultural anthropology, having held a full-time teaching position at Spertus from September 1991 to September 1993. Levine has also been a research assistant at Spertus since September 1990. Levine's previous work experience includes adjunct faculty positions at the University of Illinois at Chicago and New York University, where she taught cultural anthropology. Born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Deborah Levine grew up in a Reform Judaism family. She graduated from high school in 1984 and went on to study business administration at the University of Tennessee, but decided to change her career after hearing about the Lingua French Immersion program at the nearby Alan Rosenbloom School of Business. Levine switched to business too, and worked her way up the ranks at three different companies before landing at Lingua French Immersion, where she became Executive Artistic Director from January 1975 to June 1981. After a year at Lingua, Levine and her team created Lean In - Women Ground Breakers, which served as the first everWomens' Resource Association for inter-faith group work.In 1991 Levine left Lingua to found DuPage Interfaith Resource Network, which sponsored and distributed support groups for immigrant and refugee families in DuPage and DuPage County, Illinois. In 2014 Levine left DuPage to become Advisor, Global Education Program at Birmingham International Center. Levine is also the author of five books, the founder/editor of American Diversity Report, and the author of a nationally syndicated blog, Inter religious Affairs Director at American Jewish Committee. She currently provides keynote and consultant speeches, trainings, and workshops around the world on how to create inclusive communities.
