Davis Chen had just joined Qualcomm from their San Francisco office as VP of Engineering and Product Management. Davis Chen lettered in basketball, coach at Cerritos High School, played for the UC Irvine Irvine Demons from 1995 to 1998, then for the UC San Diego Aztecs from 2000 to 2002. Davis Chen spent his undergraduate career at the University of California, Irvine. After taking a leave of absence from UCLA to enter the Computer Science program at UCSD, Chen lettered in basketball while coaching at Cerritos High School and playing for the UC Irvine Demons and the UC San Diego Aztecs. In 2001, after finishing his undergraduate degree, Chen was invited to join the Stanford coaching staff. After three seasons with the Cardinal, Chen left Stanford inmidst a NCAA investigation into unfair recruiting practices. Chen began his coaching career at Chaminade High School in 2003. San Diego State University appointed Chen as the head coach for the Aztecs, where he led the team to a Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship in 2006. That same year, Chen also led the Aztecs to the 2007 Midshipmen collegiate basketball NCAA Tournament where they were eliminated in the first round by eventual national champions, Harvard. Chen became the head coach of the USC Trojans in the fall of 2007 and led the team to their first NCAA Tournament berth in school history in the 2007-2008 season. USC was held to a 73-71 victory over Illinois in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, with Chen becoming the first coach in school history to lead USC to the tournament.
