I am passionate about web technologies and have a wide range of experience developing software for large organisations such as Mozilla, Microsoft, Facebook and Kobo as well as for start-ups and for the open-source community.
I am focused on open-source web technologies, backed up with exposure to a wide range of server-side frameworks as well as supporting services and databases.
I have special interest in GIS and the geospatial web. Some of my projects have been featured in the media, won multiple awards and have appeared in New York's Museum of Modern Art.
I enjoy academic pursuits, and have just completed a MSc. degree in Geographic Information Systems.
Senior Developer @ Rocksteady Technology has released Motocal (https://www.motocal.com/), a disruptive web app for designing motorsports decals.
* Design and implementation of a graphic-design web app using NodeJS, EmberJS, FabricJS, Rails, MySQL, Mongo.
* Responsible for full software engineering process from gathering requirements to development, testing and deployment.
* Key projects included API design (Ember-Data/Rails), development of automated QA framework (PhantomJS/CasperJS), implementation of build pipeline (GulpJS, Browserify, Vagrant) and code reviews / mentoring (Bitbucket).
My role was to manage the successful implementation, testing and deployment of the product. My choice of frontend technologies were jQuery and Leaflet communicating with a GeoDjango API. The app was written to be cross-platform and mobile-ready. Django's Test Framework and QUnit were employed for unit testing.
iGeoComms was selected to participate in the NDRC LaunchPad VI Accelerator programme.
As a development partner of the Mozilla Organization, I was required to liaise closely with developers there in order to develop APIs, add-ons as well as testing and identifying browser and SDK bugs. I was a participant in many annual Mozilla Camps and Summits. We delivered products to clients such as Mozilla, Microsoft and Facebook.
As a developer I was responsible for implementing new features and resolving issues with the main booking engine. Care and testing was essential here in order not to disrupt the thousands of concurrent users on the site.
The booking engine was deployed on a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack using in-house version control and testing frameworks. From 2005 to 2006 (1 year) Senior Developer @ XML Workshop is a technology consultancy firm specialising in public sector web development.
In my capacity as web developer, I was involved in the deployment of several high profile websites such as The Irish Farmer's Journal, Teagasc and The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
I was also exposed to many XML data formats and protocols. My work included developing software to automate the conversion of Word Documents to XML for inclusion in the University of Reading's Virtual BlackBoard eLearning environment. From 2000 to 2005 (5 years)
