Developer @ I am responsibile for maintaining and updating an in-house custom-built application. My work will involve Code Igniter, PHP, MySQL and other technologies From August 2014 to Present (1 year 5 months) Llandudno, United KingdomProprietor @ Spectral Software specialises in bespoke web development, software and database solutions From March 2007 to Present (8 years 10 months) Lead Developer/Server Administrator @ All aspects of website development and management. Role includes maintenance and updating of existing software and creating bespoke solutions, including database design. Minor to moderate design skills employed along with dynamic UI elements.
My role now includes server administration. After setting up the server from a simple Debian LAMP installation, I installed tools for administration and security. The server is scanned daily for malware and viruses. Additionally, the server takes daily incremental backups of all sites and a weekly full backup, which are kept for 60 days.
Multiple monitoring services, both internal and external, ensure that I can maintain maximum uptime. I also perform the day-to-day running of the server and the application of updates at the earliest opportunity From September 2005 to January 2015 (9 years 5 months) Developer @ At Phoenix I was responsible for creating a drop-shippng application. This required a central application to receive orders and control the settings for clients and their websites.
The system was designed such that simply supplying a few details (company name, domain etc.) a fully functional e-commerce site would be created, complete with all products, descriptions and associated images/
Each site had a choice of template at install time (created by the very talented Matt Bevins of Phoenix), and new templates could be easily added. Administrators could change the template even after the website was live. Custom templates were also supported.
System administrators could update products (descriptions, prices, images etc.) and push these updates directly to all sites or a selective list. Products could also be added, removed or dosabled. Each client could be assigned a margin on the price, which could also be updated and pushed to the sites.
The clients using the system need no knowledge at all of website administration owing to the automation. All payments were made directly to the administrators of the system and a monthly report would be generated and clients can receive their monthly profit
Technologies included in buidling this were:
- PHP
- Javascript
- MySQL
- BASH scripting (although not much and relatively simple)
- SOAP and WSDL
After an initial briefing and and discussion of some base ideas with the excellent and extremely clever Graham Bevins of Phoenix, I was in charge of all planning, design and code. From March 2008 to October 2009 (1 year 8 months)
