After graduating from MIT with a PhD in Navigation and Control Systems, I worked on numerous UAV programs at Athena Technologies, Rockwell Collins Control Technologies, and the Sierra Nevada Corporation. I founded Wasatch Autonomy in 2014 to leverage the experience I gained working on advanced military UAV systems to contribute to the emerging civilian and commercial UAV

I am excited to join Google[x] to help solve the remaining barriers preventing widespread civilian UAV adoption.

Successfully led technical teams as chief engineer on a variety of programs. Supported the program manager in tracking cost and schedule, and in reporting progress to the customer.
Mentor junior engineers by leading on-boarding technical lectures, walking them through the engineering process, and supervising their technical work.

Support domestic and international business pursuits, for both government and commercial customers. Serve as technical expert within capture teams to interact with the customer, understand its needs, and architect appropriate solutions. Led several proposals by designing the technical approach, providing the technical narrative, and planning the effort (cost and schedule).
Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) Team Lead, Project Wing @ Delivering the future. From March 2015 to Present (10 months) San Francisco Bay AreaOwner and CEO @ The company developed a GPS-independent collaborative relative navigation system that enables small UAVs to autonomously follow ground users at close range while avoiding obstacles. From March 2014 to Present (1 year 10 months) Greater Salt Lake City AreaPrincipal Systems Engineer, Guidance Navigation and Control @ Salt Lake City is SNC's center of excellence for navigation and landing systems. SNC designs those systems for both unmanned and manned markets combining a variety of sensors that are either ground- or aircraft-based. From October 2012 to February 2014 (1 year 5 months) Greater Salt Lake City AreaPrincipal Flight Control and Navigation Engineer @ Rockwell Collins Control Technologies (RCCT) is Rockwell Collins Center of Excellence for unmanned aerial systems (UAS). RCCT designs low-SWAP INS/GPS products from automotive- to navigation-grade, for military and civilian systems (including FAA Level A certification). RCCT products can also host RCCT's flight control software, which is fielded on fixed-wing and VTOL platforms around the world.
In my years at Athena / RCCT, I have worked on a variety of navigation and flight control programs for aerospace customers.
Government programs include DARPA Damage Tolerant Control (2006-2010) and DARPA Persistent Close Air Support (ongoing).
Commercial customers include AgustaWestland, for whom I led the technical concept (inertial and air data sensor selection, algorithm design, TSO certification) for RCCT's first DO-178B / DO-254 Level A FAA-certified ADAHRS (SensorPac).
Internal programs include vision-aided navigation, Doppler-aided navigation, tuning and enhancements of the navigation filters for RCCT's suite of INS/GPS products, design of RCCT's 2D navigation logic.
