📖 Summary
Web developer @ inside btb Agenzia di Comunicazione Ferrara Development of web projects on ASP.net and SQL Server platform From August 2010 to October 2010 (3 months) FerraraSoftware Developer @ Centro Computer S.p.A. As an intern, i had to create, modify and add new features in a Microsoft Dynamics Crm 4.0 application. From June 2009 to September 2009 (4 months) Cento, FerraraSenior Software Engineer @ Trulia • Collaborated with resident Data Scientist on Thoth. The project is a Realtime Monitoring System currently deployed on top of the Search Infrastructure that indexes, analyzes, displays statistics, learns and helps unravel sub-optimization on both query and infrastructure side. I co presented the project at the Lucene Revolution conference in November 2014 • Collaborated on the Amenities project. Implemented nearby search and prepared a production Solr Cloud infrastructure and API layer to support display of amenities on the property detail page and mobile apps.• Created a notification orchestrator to throttle, de-dupe and smartly send push notifications to Trulia consumers. This included support for different push notification programs, notification rate and time sensitivity preferences • Led efforts and support of a complicated migration of our internal FE from querying directly our search infrastructure to querying a Data Services API layer. Helped with the scaling and optimized performance • Worked on a new series of location microservices. The stack included Linux, Jetty, Drop Wizard, Lucene, Java. Worked on the end to end, including data gathering, indexing pipelines, API structure and development.• Enhanced the `Prospective Search` project. Converted single core implementation to Solr Cloud multi shard - multi collection. Quadruplicate QPS and notification generation while maintaining performance. The project is the main source of realtime push notification at Trulia. Improved data import speed capabilities introducing a Redis cache.• Tuned and consolidated alerting and monitoring. Enabled integration with Pagerduty and Service Now. Introduced mandatory run books for each production system and service. Trained first layer of escalation and dedicated after hours team.Mainly used Java, Python, Lucene, Redis, Pagerduty, Machine learning libraries (H2o), Spring, ZK, Apache Solr 3.6.X & Solr Cloud 4.X, DropWizard, Springboot, MySql, Hadoop From January 2014 to August 2015 (1 year 8 months) San Francisco Bay AreaSoftware Engineer @ Trulia • Worked on multiple search performance and replication projects. Implemented single and multi core parallel replication: improved full silo replication speed of 60%• Kicked off migration from Apache Solr 1.4 to Apache Solr 3.6.2. Created new twin Search Infrastructure to support live traffic migration and new Hadoop indexing workflows to support Lambda architecture • Worked on enhancements for our Keyword Search. Worked on custom Apache Solr Components and Handlers to allow integration of high quality keywords coming from an external dictionary. Used perfect match and sliding window on n-grams to boost terms accordingly and affect ranking. • Developed a packaging system based on debian. Incapsulated majority of old and new applications and services to allow fast and standard deployment. Integrated the mechanism with Jenkins and facilitated releases and roll-backs through apt-get. The system became the de facto standard in multiple data engineering teams• Developed a release orchestrator framework on top of Fabric to allow automated, safe and repeatable releases our multiple service pools. The system became the de facto standard in multiple data engineering teams• Helped the team during SVN to git/github migration. Guided the team with couple of deployment and release workflows suggestions that matched the new git paradigmMainly used Java, Python, Lucene Spring, Apache Solr 1.4.X, 3.6.X, MySql, Hadoop From October 2012 to January 2014 (1 year 4 months) San Francisco Bay AreaWeb developer @ University of Ferrara • Designed and built a style framework based on Ruby and SASS using as Compass and Bootstrap as inspiration. Consolidated all the styles across the University platforms including the Zope Plone styles and all ROR applications.• Made all legacy and new Rails applications responsive• Helped redesigning the new www.unife.it• Picked up Ruby on Rails and single-handed migrated, refactored old rails 2 applications to rails 3. • Built and open sourced a ruby version of the Google provisioning API which is still used in production. • Introduced Apache Solr to the university platform. Managed from setup, to scalability plans to integration. Good example is the university internal and external address/phone book (http://servizi.unife.it/rubrica/) and international students exchange internal toolMainly used Python, Ruby, Apache Solr 3.6.X, Ruby on Rails, Compass, SASS, Plone From March 2012 to September 2012 (7 months) ItalySoftware Engineering Intern @ Trulia Dealt mostly with Apache Solr and Hadoop.• Real time notification system implementing "Prospective Search / Percolation" on Apache Solr • Solr search servers stats tool: used Hadoop to process large quantity of logs, JSP and Javascript to display graphs and statistics• Query signature: using Hadoop, created an Heuristic to unique classify queries and provide some statistics. Helped improving performance of the search servers. From July 2011 to January 2012 (7 months) San Francisco Bay AreaProfessor assistant @ University of Ferrara Professor assistant for the course “Database Systems 2" and “Computer Architecture & lab” - Degree in Computer Science. Provides assistance - mainly didactic - useful to face specific hardships that the student meets with certain courses or workshops for the degree course chosen. The interventions consist of additional lessons. From 2010 to 2011 (1 year) Ferrara, ItalyTech Lead, Search @ Trulia - Zillow Group • Led Trulia Search and Discovery API layer efforts: coordinated and funneled feature requests, improved monitoring and performance, speed up development and automated release process, designed upcoming structural and architectural changes to support microservice architecture • Managed a team of 4 developers for the first 10 months. Doubled the team by the end of the year. Team ranged from Junior Developers to Senior Developers. Duties included weekly 1on1s with each team member, sprint planning, guidance, and project managing.• Worked on the backend of the 'Rent near Transit' project. Born as the winner of innovation week, worked on the polymorphic search experience, transit coverage feature, integration of the feature and statistics with our current API layers *• Collaborated with resident Data Scientist on NLP Search: helped to prepare training data, building an NLP model using CRF tagger, integrated the POC in our Search API layer.• Architected and consulted on the search area of a big lambda real-time processing project• Collaborated with resident Data Scientist & team on building Real-time Personalized Ranking based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation Algorithm: helped to prepare training data, feature building, and discovery, creating the pipeline to generate and train model. Worked on a Real-time Featurizer Microservice and on an additional pipeline to evaluate and optimize hyperparameters and training features. • Collaborated with resident DevOps to standardize the new deployment and release on AWS using our Debian packaging system, Jenkins, Packer.io, Puppet and Terraform. Introduced the new workflow for the new microservices.• Led the team to create a new family of location and search based microservices. Each service followed development and integration standards. Mainly used Java, Python, Lucene, Machine learning libraries (MALLET, OpenNLP), Spring, ZK, Apache Solr 3.6.X & Solr Cloud 4.X-5.X, DropWizard, Hadoop, packer.io, puppet, terraform, AWS.
