From July 2010 to December 2011 (1 year 6 months) Greater New York City AreaSenior Vice President, Head of Digital @ Oversaw all Island Def Jam business activities in the online and mobile space. Also responsible for expanding the company’s business beyond its traditional focus by building new revenue streams and working with UMG on setting corporate digital strategy. During tenure IDJ launched a number of high impact new major initiatives and created a full digital media platform of websites and social media including iPhone apps, video, widgets and more to monetize content through e-commerce, advertising and brand integration on the web and mobile. Was named one of Billboard’s Top Ten Mobile Executives in 2008. From July 2007 to January 2010 (2 years 7 months) Executive Vice President @ Executive Vice President at Acotel Interactive, one of the world’s leading direct to consumer mobile entertainment companies, based in New York.
As part of its founding team, built the company from start-up to one of the top players in the mobile entertainment industry. Its 2006 growth was the major reason for tripling its public parent company’s market cap (Acotel.MI). Responsibilities included product and marketing strategy including production and marketing of original content in music, film and games as well as licensing deals with third party content providers. Also involved in negotiations with telecom operators such as Verizon, T-Mobile, at&t etc. and in working with the compny's gateway provider MBlox on optimizing subscriber sign up and retention. Acotel Interactive is now exceeding $150 m in revenue and is significantly profitable. From October 2005 to July 2007 (1 year 10 months) Co-Founder and Co-CEO @ Co-Founded E-Magine Entertainment, a New York based record label with an internet marketing, on-line community and e-commerce focus.
Raised three rounds of equity financing from private and institutional investors for a total of $ 4.5 million and developed the business, responsible for operations, finance, administration, business affairs and development. Negotiated company’s artist, distribution and marketing agreements. From May 1999 to December 2004 (5 years 8 months) Senior Vice President, Business Affairs and Development @ Hired to turn around Imax subsidiary Ridefilm Corp. and build Imax’s Business Affairs and Development departments. Served on Imax’s R&D Committee and on the Board of Directors of Imax subsidiary Sonics Corp. Reported to Imax's CEO.
Developed the Imax Business Affairs and Development department from scratch as well as Imax’s theme park business overseeing a team of BA/legal employees. In addition had first approval for all deals Imax sales force was working on before final CEO sign-off. Engineered turnaround of Ridefilm division from a substantial loss in 1995 to profitability in 1997.
Negotiated film, theatre and product development deals for Imax with Hitachi, Sony, ITT, Sega, Universal, Mainframe Entertainment and many others. From August 1995 to April 1999 (3 years 9 months) Vice President, New Technologies, BMG Entertainment @ Spearheaded BMG’s participation in new technologies, founding a New Technologies division. Responsible for developing new businesses related to new technologies including interactive entertainment, video games, on-line services, and internet related activities.
Targeted and completed BMG’s equity investments of $12 million in technology start-ups. This included the initial funding for ION, later part of Gracenote which was sold to Sony Corp. in 2008 for $260 m.. Served on Board of Directors and as strategic advisor to top management. Had key role in building BMG’s multi-media distribution and international infrastructures. Initiated BMG’s strategy for Internet presence leading to the development of Web pages for both the record club and labels. Served as advisor on new media to Chairman of BMG and CEO of Bertelsmann AG. Served as BMG’s representative on the RIAA’s (Recording Association of America) Technology committee.
