My current career path has taken me through build, install, open source development, iPhone application development, JEE middleware development, and Hadoop application development. I've designed systems, led teams, and developed software. My natural skills include fast ramp-up time with any code or technology, problem solving, finding the best mix of software to use in a solution, and leveraging my network for information. These skills help me to rapidly build solutions around the current needs of the business.
Specialties: Debugging, rapid prototyping, throwing away bad code, change.
Senior Software Engineer @ Robin Systems is stealth-mode startup pioneering the development of “beyond the box virtualization” software that promises to revolutionize IT infrastructure by making it more reliable, faster, easier, and considerably less expensive. With Robin, enterprises can undertake initiatives like Big Data analytics without worrying about infrastructure. More details to come in 1Q15. From July 2013 to Present (2 years 6 months) Milpitas, CASr. Lead Engineer - IRIS/Engine Development @ Senior lead engineer for the Information Repository and Intelligence Server (IRIS). My core responsibilities are:
- Being a focal point for customers, handling their issues, enhancement requests, rollout questions, etc.
- Training and helping new employees through the product code.
- Development of the configuration and installation of IRIS and ePedigree.
- Interviewing candidates for engineering positions in the company. From October 2012 to July 2013 (10 months) Advisory Engineer @ Part of the Accelerator for Social Media Data team in the BigInsights group, IBM's Hadoop enterprise system. My core responsibilities were to:
- Create the "offline" application to analyze the stored data from social media sites.
- Collate the result set into a structure that can be consumed easily by downstream tools.
- Index the result set using Lucene.
- Create the user interface to configure the application, control and kick-off Hadoop jobs, return status and error messages, and generate reports from the results in BigTable.
The technologies I directly used were AQL, Jaql, Hil, Oozie, HDFS, BigInsights WorkflowScheduler (FLEX), and Java. From March 2012 to September 2012 (7 months) Advisory Engineer @ In the role of application developer for InfoSphere Traceability Server, I am involved in the following tasks:
- Chief programmer and team lead of a group to develop iPhone applications to support the operations for Traceability Server. These applications take advantage of the camera to scan barcodes, process the image to obtain the product code, query Traceability Server with the product information, and display all the relevant product information to the user.
- Designing and developing a configuration solution and user experience for Traceability Server's initial deployment.
- Developer for the ePedigree application, a J2EE application that handles pedigrees. From November 2009 to September 2012 (2 years 11 months) Advisory Engineer @ During this time, I was the team lead and developer for Autonomic Computing products and tools. I worked on the following projects during this time:
- Designed and developed command line utilities to manage the lifecycle of fixes and fix-packs for autonomic-enabled products and to scan for existing software on the system.
- Chief programmer and team leader of a group that developed a Rich Client Platform (RCP) application to manage the lifecycle of fixes and fix-packs which included setting line item tasks, schedules, assignments, and interfacing with customers to address their needs.
- Chief programmer and team leader of a cross-company team between IBM and SAS to deliver deployment development tools as part of the COSMOS project in Eclipse. I designed the framework, wrote the high-level tasks, set the direction,
and developed the code.
- Architected and developed a proof of concept to combine two technologies (IBM's Tivoli Provisioning Manager and the open standard Solution Deployment Descriptor) to deliver a viable solution for our customer.
- Developed the wizard panels to allow the customer to configure WebSphere Business Events' WebSphere Application Server profile. From March 2004 to June 2009 (5 years 4 months) Staff Engineer @ Supported the build tasks and infrastructure for internal products through the following tasks:
- Developed a Lotus Notes build automation and notification application for builders to schedule automatic builds, developers to subscribe to build notices, and managers to access statistics and build break history/analysis.
- Designed and developed key functions of the common build framework, including Eclipse plug-in support which creates features, plug-ins, and download repositories from build information. The common build framework is used by multiple product builds and provides a very strong base to quickly setup new build processes.
- Designed and developed an automated hot-fix creation utility. This tooling queried the source control library for changed code to determine what jars to package in the customer hot-fix. This greatly cut down on the number of test cycles needed for each hot-fix since it was packaged right the first time. From June 2000 to March 2004 (3 years 10 months)
