Collaborate with executive management to define strategy. From 2000 to 2005 (5 years) Austin, Texas AreaLead Developer @ I learned Java on the job at Nortel. Java had just been released and our team spent some time researching as part of our mandate to investigate how new technologies could be applied to Nortel products. Our small team really thought there was something to it so we spent the next 2 years developing a GUI based management console for the the MSL-100 series telecom switch. Version 1.0 was a practice release. We couldn't offer it to our customers because it would bring the MSL-100 to it's knees when it polled the switch to build a provisioning profile. So back to the drawing board and by that time, there had been a few improvements made to Java the the J2EE specification had just been released. So version 2.0 utilized a multi-tier architecture, something brand new at the time. We split our team up into back end and front end. I worked with Cindi Caudill and Chris Litfin while Doug Nehring lead the UI development. Now Doug makes huge money as an independent and I'm still earning a salary. Way to go Doug! Created an automated data collection system that collected the results from all of the automated test systems to create an automated process improvement feedback loop.
Developed the first of it's kind automated test system for solid state circuit breakers destined for Skylab that were designed to trip and shut down in less than 5 milliseconds when the load on the circuit reached 100 amps. When one of our hybrids failed it would make a loud bang, The large mosfet shunt would literally blow up making a loud bang like a shotgun went off. Scared the you know what out of me the first few times it happened. I had a room full of engineers wanting to know what happened and then they wanted me to do it again. It was almost disappointing when they passed. From 1986 to 1995 (9 years)
