đ Summary
I completed a bachelors degree in Internet Computing at the University of Manchester in June 2011. For my third year project I created an Android application which creates on the fly companion guides to books. It is called bookfriend and is available for download on the Android Market. My course was a sandwich course and included a one year placement as a software developer at a Java development company and I continued to work for them during my last year and for a short while after graduating before going travelling around Latin America. In February 2012 I began work as a software developer specialising in Android development for tablet devices. Although Java development is my speciality, I also do freelance web design and development which includes some PHP based work and installing and customising content management systems.Software Engineer @ Currently working as an Android engineer. From May 2013 to Present (2 years 7 months) Manchester, United KingdomSoftware Developer @ Primarily Android development for various clients, including a system that interacts with .net web services for field-sales agents to use in the field to record information for particular clients, and a tablet based expense management system which is used by over 400 members of staff. Also some web development using HTML and CSS. From February 2012 to May 2013 (1 year 4 months) RuncornDeveloper @ I worked full-time for Team Netsol for over a year working on large scale Java web applications for the public sector including online benefits claim systems and the Scottish census. This involved working as part of a small team and using custom software tools to develop and deploy applications. I was given the responsibility of creating a new product for online change in circumstances system for people claiming benefits in which I needed to apply logic to the flow of questions and understand government regulations about benefits. I also worked part-time whilst at University. From July 2009 to August 2011 (2 years 2 months) Manchester, United KingdomPHP developer @ As the sole PHP developer I developed a system to provide a web interface for a mobile digital recording drainage CCTV reporting system. This website uses AJAX to receive data live from the units and send information to the units. The system is a new development in this industry and has been received well at several trade shows. From February 2009 to May 2009 (4 months) IT Service Desk @ As part of a 6-person team, I provided 1st and 2nd line technical support to employees whilst adhering to ITIL best practices at all times. My role within the team was to take calls that varied in complexity, from information and basic computer help, to network management and configuration. It was essential to manage user expectation by quickly assessing problems, prioritise issues and give them an accurate timescale. Part of my job included and passing problems to the relevant departments, so I learnt to effectively query and engage with users to get the required information.
