When Calvin Gidlof was born in 1967, he was the only child of Marlene and Ragnar Gidlof. Maternal grandparents were Norwegian and Swiss immigrants who had united the two families in 1865. Marlene was a teacher and Ragnar worked at a forge. In high school, Calvin played ice hockey and was\. After he passed away in 2006, I decided to pursue a career in civil engineering because of him."When he was 18, Gidlof accepted a scholarship from the University of Utah and left for college full time in 1987. He earned a B.S. in civil engineering in 1992, and then continued his education with a J.D. in civil engineering in 1999.Shortly after his J.D. degree, Gidlof went into practice as an associate engineer with three different engineering companies. In 1998, he joined the firm of Skanska USA Corporation as a project manager/estimator. From January 2004 to September 2005, he was a project manager/estimator with Skanska USA Building Inc. where he increased the value of projects by $20 million.Calvin Gidlof is currently the Chief Estimator at ParsonsIndustry of Civil Engineering. In this role, he is responsible for setting goals and overseeing the work of estimators on a number of significant civil engineering projects. He has also been involved in developing the company's estimating capabilities, serving as the director of the firm'sConstruction Planning and Analysis Department, and as the head of the firm's Project Management Department.Calvin Gidlof has a strong interest in civil engineering and has taught himself the industry's best practices.
