I grew up writing software, coming up with clever hacks, and building small products. I was fortunate enough to attend a high school that had a three year Computer Science curriculum, and I continued my Computer Science education at Stevens Institute of Technology. I graduated from Stevens with high honors in early 2011, and received a job at Attila Technologies, the startup I had been interning with since my Junior year. In late 2011, I left Attila to pursue a passion project that would become a product called echo. Our goal with echo was to facilitate location-based communications for people on mobile. When you opened echo, it would automatically detect which city or neighborhood you were in, and provide you with the most recent updates from echo users in that location. Unfortunately echo did not work out as well as the team, investors, and I would have hoped, and I discontinued operations for the company in mid-2013. Following the echo shutdown I approached betaworks about working on the iOS app for Instapaper, which betaworks had recently acquired. After a few weeks we determined it would be a good fit, and I came on board to the nascent Instapaper team. I found that I was able to apply a lot of the non-technical skills I had built up from starting a company to Instapaper, and in January 2014 I was promoted to General Manager at Instapaper. After advocating, planning, and executing a successful transition that took Instapaper from a paid application with a $1/month subscription to a free application with a $3/mo subscription, I was promoted to CEO of the company, where I'm currently gainfully employed. As CEO I am responsible for performance, product evolution, and the overall organization.
