📖 Summary
Tinkerer/Artist/Fabricator @ Self I love to design random things that peek my curiosity. These have ranged from terrariums out of stained glass to small walking machines utilizing living hinges and monolithic design. Please see my photos to see examples. San FranciscoMechanical Engineer @ Google I was part of what we affectionately called the "Other" team. My work is focused on contract work from Meka before our acquisition. I'll show you guys once I can. From October 2013 to January 2015 (1 year 4 months) Lead Mechanical Design Engineer @ Meka Robotics At Meka I worked to create mechatronic systems for research platforms for various research institutes. My first system at Meka was a forearm of an underwater research robot designed to do force control tasks in the Red Sea. Once the forearm was completed I moved on to designing an upper body exoskeleton for a different university. The exoskeleton was a 14 DoF torque controllable exo designed for stroke rehabilitation. It contains 5 powered DoF in each shoulder allowing for rehab of scapula as well as the tradition ball joint in the shoulder. Bicep flexion and wrist pronation/supination are also powered. From July 2013 to October 2013 (4 months) San Francisco, CASenior Mechanical Design Engineer @ Ekso Bionics In my position as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Ekso Bionics I designed robotic exoskeletons for medical rehabilitation, added mobility, military load carrying, industrial tool holding and other systems with a focus on providing the optimal power, sensing, and passive dynamics in the actuation system. Recent projects include but are definitely not limited to actuated ankle orthotics to be implemented on a research version of the Ekso platform as part of an NSF grant along with developing numerous new sensors to allow for new and improved control schemes. From September 2011 to July 2013 (1 year 11 months) Richmond, CAEngineering Intern @ Bastian Material Handling Designed material handling equipment. Helped to see projects from concept to installation. From May 2007 to August 2007 (4 months) Engineering Intern @ Hytrol Conveyor Co., Inc. I worked second shift in the engineering department completing change orders. Also, a lot of time was spent familiarizing myself with the manufacturing processes at the facility. From May 2006 to August 2006 (4 months) Assembler @ Best Conveyors I worked as an assembly line worker. Products that I assembled include BestFlex conveyor and transitions for BestReach conveyors. From May 2005 to August 2005 (4 months) Installer @ CDC Custom Closets High school job where I installed shelving systems in apartments, houses, and other various buildings. This later led to diversifying and installing doorways, door fixtures, bathroom fixtures, and keying locks. From August 2003 to May 2005 (1 year 10 months) Mechanical Design Engineer @ BMH Robotics · Designed various material handling and robotic automation systems for numerous different clients. · Created complete Bills of Materials and Maintenance Schedules for complex systems · Used WebEx to hold design review and conceptual brainstorming with customers. From January 2010 to January 2011 (1 year 1 month) Shop Manager / General Handyman @ Missouri S&T In this position, I helped to upkeep the universities student design center as well as other various facilities. My co-worker and I performed repair work on the Solar Village which included replacing and maintaining the solar water heating systems, performing battery testing, and general upkeep. From May 2009 to December 2009 (8 months) Teaching assistant @ Missouri S&T Assist teaching students manufacturing processes in a lab environment. Taught milling, turning, drilling, shaping, and tapping operations. Managed Student Design and Experiential Learning Center shop From August 2007 to December 2009 (2 years 5 months) Fabrication Engineer Co-op @ Harley-Davidson Motor Company · Designed fixtures for manufacturing of fuel tanks, frames, and other motorcycle parts · Implemented new manufacturing equipment in the plant including a robotic welding station for fuel tanks and new filler cup brazing station · Performed capability studies for weldments and verified accuracy of machines From January 2007 to August 2007 (8 months) Sr. Mechanical Engineer @ Saildrone Inc During my time at Saildrone my roll was as a Senior Mechanical Design engineer. I helped to implement new designs such as sensor payloads, actuation systems, and composite tooling. Also mentored junior engineers in design practices and GD&T for machined parts. From February 2018 to February 2019 (1 year 1 month) Alameda, CADirector of Research - Orthotics Team @ otherlab At Roam which began as a part of Otherlab I was responsible for a large portion of the ideation, design, build, and testing of a novel lower limb exoskeleton to help with running and walking for high performing individuals. From pneumatic design, cnc machining, design for manufacture, composite layup, to even sewing, I helped to develop systems used to create these ultra light, high power pneumatic orthoses. From January 2015 to February 2018 (3 years 2 months) San Francisco, CaliforniaLead Design Engineer @ Otherlab Design and fabrication of all sorts of things that help decarbonize America, help fight the Covid-19 pandemic, and even have a lot of fun.
