Summer Intern @ HHMI Janelia Research Campus Using Python, I developed a program to train and test convolutional neural networks for segmenting 3D images of brain tissue. The program integrates a method of training known as MALIS into the normal backpropagation for artificial neural networks. MALIS was developed by my supervisor specifically to improve the training of convolutional networks for image segmentation. The code is available on Github at the link below. From May 2015 to August 2015 (4 months) Ashburn, VASoftware Engineer II @ Simmetry Solutions, Inc. Designed and deployed a High Availability Kubernetes cluster on Amazon EC2 instances through CloudFormation.Designed a core component of the Net-Centric Weapon Test and Evaluation Enviroment (NCWTEE) based on client specifications.Collaborated with a team of engineers to implement the NCWTEE component in Java.Designed and developed additional features based on client's needs and requests.Utilized the Extendable Mobile Ad-hoc Network Emulator (EMANE), as well as the Link16 and VMF protocols Reston, VAPhysics Teaching Assistant @ Berea College Assisted the professor both by meeting with students outside of class to review concepts from class and by grading homework. From August 2013 to May 2015 (1 year 10 months) Berea, KYUndergraduate Research Assistant @ The University of Toledo I studied the hazard levels of neutron radiation at the Nevada Terawatt Facility near Reno, Nevada. The research was conducted with simulations of neutron radiation in the Zebra Bay. I analyzed the results of these simulations to determine the levels of neutron radiation received in the control and safety rooms of the Zebra Bay. From June 2013 to August 2013 (3 months) Toledo, Ohio and Reno, NevadaMathematics Teaching Assistant @ Berea College Assisted the professor by meeting with students outside of class as well as by grading homework. From August 2012 to April 2013 (9 months) Berea, KYUndergraduate Research Assistant @ Ohio Wesleyan University I worked with my PI to study the affect of neuron heterogeneity on networks with different structural connectivities using simulations in Matlab. The simulations were conducted using Morris-Lecar model neurons divided into two broad categories of excitability. The research focused on the three general network models - random, small-world, and scale-free - with the results being published in the Journal of Physical Review.
