He then did a Concentration in Parasiticology, Environmental Science, and Environmental Engineering at Southern Illinois University Carbondale from 1981-1985. After having completed his degree, Weydertthen worked for two years as a Research Associate for the herpetology program at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale School of Veterinary Medicine from 1985-1988.In 1989, Weydert moved to the University of Arizona as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology and then in the Department of Botany in 1990. He worked there until his promotion to Associate Professor in 1995. Weydert then held the position of Associate Professor until his promotion to Professor in 2000. Weydert currently is Professor of Parasiticology at the University of Arizona where he is the Director of the Disease Ecology Research Unit.As anAssistant Professor at the University of Arizona, Weydert was Course Director for the Center for Disease Ecology Research and Stimulated Research in economically depressed urban areas throughout the United States in 1990-1994. He then served as the Coordinator of Instruction and Development at the Psychiatric Research Foundation in Tucson, AZ from 1995-1998. From 1998-2002, Weydertwas the Coordinator of Instruction and Resources for the Gaseous Toxicology Program at the Makerere University in Uganda.From 2002-2004, Weydertwas a Visiting Professor atthe University of Washington in Seattle, WA.Weydert's current position at the University of Arizona is the Director of the Disease Ecology Research Unit. There, he is working to improve research on parasitic diseases and their control.
