Worked on a DOE-supported research project that is exploring state-of-the-art methods for scheduling productive and defensive (for fault tolerance) I/O. My individual research is endeavouring to reduce I/O contention on large-scale computing systems through adjustment of the frequency at which applications checkpoint (process state).
Modified DMTCP (Distributed MultiThreaded CheckPointing) code to allow the study of the performance of various checkpoint intervals. Modified RAxML-Light 1.0.5 to allow periodic check pointing. Ran RAxML with a heavy workload on the Ranger supercomputer at Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) to characterize its I/O patterns on a large-scale system. Designed and developed a poster on this research, which was presented at UTEP's research exhibit at the SC2010 conference (The International Conference on High Performance Computing, Network, Storage and Analysis).
