I have been a Neurologist/Epileptologist at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA Health) since 1987. I have had a variety of clinical experience with epilepsy, including managing seizures, doing EMU and ICU monitoring, and research. I currently work as an associate professor of Neurology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.I have been working on research projects in various fields, including Emulated G platelet activation with travalent coronavirus, characterization of epileptogenic regions in the human brain, and phase I/II trials of a new epilepsy therapy. I have also been working on a new neurochemical theory about seizure onset and its mechanisms.I have received many awards and achieved many notable accomplishments in my field. I have been an invited speaker at many medical conferences and have been published in many journals. I am currently a member of the editorial board of the journal JAMA Neurology.

In 1975, Barbara Swartz graduated from UCLA with her doctorate in medicine.three years later, she earned her Marks Threshold in Pharmacology from the same school. Between 1975 and 2000, she worked as a research associate and professor at the UCLA School of Medicine. Additionally, she has worked as a clinician and a psychiatric specialist. Her research largely focuses on the use of medications as treatments for mental health issues.This experience has given Barbara Swartz a strong understanding of the therapeutic potential of medications. Additionally, since she started her work life in these positions, she has written extensively on the matter. Her books - Pharmacology for Healthcare Professionals (2001), The Pharmaceutical Management of Depression (2002), and The Psychiatric Treatment of Catastrophic Illness (2002) - provide the reader with in-depth knowledge about medications and theMHPs they are used to treat.
