Avemaria Thompson

Avemaria Thompson is a distinguished attorney and educator at Touro University Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, where she serves as the Director of the Landlord/Tenant Mediation Clinic, Clinical Faculty, and Adjunct Professor of Law. With a robust background as a former prosecutor in two New York counties, Avemaria brings over a decade of higher education teaching experience to her current role. Her expertise encompasses a wide array of legal issues, particularly in landlord/tenant matters, town violations, zoning disputes, home repair fraud cases, and civil and consumer disputes.

In her capacity as Senior Attorney for the Senior Citizens Law Program, Avemaria is dedicated to advocating for vulnerable populations, ensuring that seniors receive the legal support they need to navigate complex housing and civil issues. She supervises the Residential/Commercial Property Landlord/Tenant Mediation Program, where she not only represents clients but also trains and mentors law students in effective mediation techniques and legal advocacy. Her commitment to education is reflected in her curriculum development and teaching methodologies, which emphasize practical skills and case law analysis.

Avemaria’s legal acumen is complemented by her strong organizational skills and her ability to perform in-depth legal research.
