Born in Sydney, Australia, Andrew Penn was educated at the University of New South Wales where he obtained a degree in Economics. From 1984 to 1990, he worked for British multinational telecommunication company, AXA Asia Pacific Holdings, where he held various senior positions including Group Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director. In January 1990, he joined Telstra as a senior financial officer.
